How we earn money

You should never have to guess how a travel company is paid. Here is ours, in plain language: suppliers pay us, you do not.

Commission from the suppliers we book

When you book a stay, a transfer, a train, a flight or a ticket through us, the supplier pays us a share of that booking — the standard way travel works. It comes out of their side, which is why your total is the same as booking direct.

Trips we arrange end to end

On a full door-to-door trip we put many suppliers together into one journey and stand behind the whole thing. We are paid on each part we arrange, and the complete-trip total you approve is the total you pay.

Extras you actually asked for

Bags, car seats, transfers, insurance, event tickets and activities are priced openly as their own lines. Nothing is pre-ticked, and removing one always lowers the total.

Our planning engine, sold to others later

Nobody else plans a whole door-to-door journey the way our engine does. In time we can license that to other travel businesses — income that does not come from travellers at all.

Every way we can be paid

The whole list, with the real market rate for each and whether it is earning today. Rates were read from the payers' own published terms on 2026-09-19.

Places to stay

Waiting on the supplier

10–15% of the room rate, paid after the stay

Paid by the hotel, guesthouse or rental owner.

You pay the room rate, and we are paid out of it afterwards. Booking through us costs the same as booking direct.

Our rule: A property paying more never ranks higher, and never gets a badge that implies quality.

Flights

Earning now

roughly $0–30 on a $1,000 ticket — often a flat fee of a few dollars

Paid by the airline or flight distributor.

Flights barely pay anyone. We show the airline's own fare and add nothing to it, which is why flights alone will never fund this business.

Our rule: We will never add a booking fee or a service fee to a fare to make flights pay.

Car hire

Waiting on the supplier

typically 40% of the broker's own margin — around $15–25 a rental

Paid by the car hire company or broker.

Same counter, same car, same price. The desk pays us, not you.

Our rule: We never pre-select the insurance upsell or hide the excess.

Airport transfers and taxis

Waiting on the supplier

around 30% of the operator's margin on the ride

Paid by the transfer operator.

A fixed price agreed before you travel, with our share coming out of it.

Our rule: The cheapest sensible option is still shown first, even when it pays us least.

Tours, attractions and things to do

Not built yet

5–8% of the ticket price

Paid by the tour or attraction operator.

Tickets cost what they cost at the gate or on the operator's own site.

Our rule: No 'sells out fast' pressure, ever. If a time slot is gone, we say it is gone.

Event and sport tickets

Not built yet

5–8% of the face value

Paid by the ticketing partner.

You see face value plus the ticketing partner's own fees, stated before you decide.

Our rule: We will not resell above face value, and we will not touch scalped inventory.

Travel insurance

Not built yet

10–25% of the premium, or a flat $12–25 a policy

Paid by the insurer.

The best-paying product in travel, which is exactly why it needs the strictest rule below.

Our rule: Never pre-ticked, never sold with fear, and we will always tell you when your card or home policy already covers you.

Data for your phone abroad

Not built yet

typically 10–20% of the plan price

Paid by the mobile data provider.

An optional extra that saves roaming charges. Skip it and nothing changes.

Our rule: We show your own network's roaming cost alongside it so you can judge.

Partner placements

Not built yet

a fixed fee per placement, agreed per partner

Paid by the advertiser.

A clearly marked panel. It is never mixed into your results and never changes what we recommend.

Our rule: Labelled 'Paid placement' in plain words, kept out of every results list, and never targeted using your personal data.

Travel credit cards

Not built yet

a flat referral fee, commonly $50–200 for an approved card

Paid by the card issuer.

A comparison page, not a recommendation. We are not a bank and will not act like one.

Our rule: Interest rates, annual fees and the catch stated first — above the reward. No card is ever required to book.

Waypoint Club membership

Waiting on the supplier

a flat membership price, stated in full

Paid by the traveller, by choice.

The only money we ever take from a traveller, and only if you decide it is worth it. Prices are identical whether you join or not.

Our rule: No auto-renewal surprise, cancel in one click, no non-member price penalty.

What a real trip earns us

Worked out from the ranges above, so you can see there is nothing hidden in your total.

A $1,000 flight ticket

You pay $1,000 — we earn $0–30

Airlines pay almost nothing to anyone. Flights bring travellers in; they do not pay the bills.

Five nights at $160 a night

You pay $800 — we earn $80–120

At 10–15% commission, paid by the hotel after checkout. This is the real engine of the business.

That same trip with a car, a transfer and insurance

You pay $800 stay + $250 car + $70 transfer + $90 insurance — we earn $120–190

The whole-trip model: each piece pays a little, and the traveller's price never moves because of it.

Four things we will never do

  • No booking fee, no service fee, no payment surcharge. The price at the moment you decide is the price you pay.
  • No paid ranking. A supplier cannot pay to appear higher in your results; the order is decided by the journey.
  • No invented urgency. No "1 left at this price" unless a supplier genuinely tells us so.
  • No hidden currency mark-up. If we convert, we show the rate and what the conversion cost.

Where this stands today

No supplier account is live yet, so nothing on the site can be bought and no commission is being earned. Prices you see are labelled as estimates. When suppliers connect, this page is updated before anything is sold.
